Building Blocks Early Childcare & Family Development Center

Laurel,

The Building Blocks Early Childcare & Family Development Center is a new 7,600-square-foot, wood-framed daycare facility designed to serve up to 70 children. The center includes a storm shelter and is designed to support before- and after-school programming as well as summer care in coordination with the adjacent school, expanding childcare access for families in the community.

Early in the project, the team identified a conflict with an underground three-phase power line and revised the grading plan at no additional cost to the owner. To meet strict grant-funding deadlines, design and construction were overlapped, with off-site wall fabrication used to accelerate the schedule and maintain momentum despite a late project start.

Hausmann self-performed work and issued early bid packages to keep the project moving. Through proactive planning and cost control, the team was also able to return savings to the owner—an outcome that proved critical for a grant-funded childcare facility where every dollar directly supports the families it serves.
