A new construction project, the Johnson Family Equine Hospital is a 99,250-square-foot teaching and clinical facility dedicated to advancing equine veterinary medicine. Designed to provide leading-edge care, the hospital integrates teaching, research, and clinical services under one roof. The facility offers outpatient care as well as specialized services in internal medicine, surgery, reproduction, dentistry, dermatology, neurology, cardiology, and rehabilitation. It also incorporates advanced diagnostic technology, including CT scanning that allows equine patients to be evaluated while standing—reducing stress and minimizing risk. A future sports medicine component, featuring hydrotherapy and a proprioception track, will further distinguish the hospital as a regional leader in equine care.
When a major donor unexpectedly withdrew late in the process, Hausmann collaborated with the design and ownership teams to identify cost savings that preserved both scope and quality, ensuring the hospital was delivered as envisioned. More than 2,500 clashes and conflicts were identified before construction, but by implementing BIM and facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, the project team reduced RFIs by 97%. Of the RFIs submitted, less than three percent were related to clashes or conflicts, preventing costly schedule delays.
