This 315,000 square foot expansion to Memorial Stadium was a transformative project, delivered in two phases to enhance Husker Athletics and meet the evolving needs of student-athletes. Phase One included the construction of a Football Performance Center, featuring an athletic medicine area, strength complex, equipment room, locker rooms, football offices, and meeting spaces, with provisions for future expansion of the football program. Phase Two focused on student-athlete support, including a new academic center, training table, student-athlete lobby, and the construction of a new outdoor track stadium, along with the relocation of the historic ‘Kissing Columns.’
The phased schedule was designed to prioritize the program’s needs while minimizing disruptions. Phase One was completed in time for the 2023 football season, providing early access to the locker rooms, practice fields, and athletic medicine areas, while the weight room and football offices were finished ahead of the 2024 spring training. Temporary scaffolding and walkways maintained access to Memorial Stadium for football games and other events, allowing the project to proceed without interrupting game-day activities.
