The Helm—a 224-unit residential development constructed by Hausmann—has been recognized with a 2026 Capstone Award from the Kansas City Business Journal. Located directly on the Kansas–Missouri state line along the Kansas River, the project required coordination across two cities and two states. The build also transforms the river levee into a public-facing amenity that connects architecture, landscape, and riverfront access.
The development addressed challenging site conditions, including remnants of historic industrial infrastructure, requiring deep foundations and careful engineering. The $43 million project includes a FEMA-rated storm shelter that doubles as a fitness center and leasing office, along with rain gardens and native plantings that support stormwater management and the surrounding ecosystem.
